KEVIN’S KEY SHARK POINT
KEEP SWIMMING. Those bumps Kevin hit when he was just starting out? They didn’t stop him from chasing this one idea. They didn’t even slow him down. Whatever he had to do, he found a way to get it done. He even sat himself down in front of a sewing machine—he didn’t have a clue how to sew, but he figured it out because he had no choice but to figure it out. He tells people looking to start their own business to be prepared to change, adapt, grow. To learn every aspect of the business—from the ground up, inside out, top to bottom…all of that. “You’ve got to evolve,” he says. “If you try one thing, and it’s just not working, figure out why it’s not working and address it. There are too many entrepreneurs sitting in their attics and basements right now, saying, ‘It’s just not right.’ Or, ‘It’s just not ready.’ But you’ve got to make it right. You’ve got to get it ready. Push yourself to where you need to be.”
What do you really want out of life? That’s the question that drives Kevin—and for him, just to use a football metaphor since he used to play, the goal line keeps moving. First, it was starting a business. Then it was reaching a certain number in sales, then a certain number after that. And, all along, he kept driving, pushing. The dude is such a hard-charger he makes me feel like a loser who hasn’t accomplished anything in life, and I need to do some push-ups.
So keep doing those push-ups, people. Stay sharp. Keep at it. And when you hit your first target, go ahead and pick out another one. And another one after that.
